Old Fashioned Chow Mein

Ingredients:bean sprout chow mein recipe

1 pound pork or chicken breast, cubed
oil for cooking
4 stalks celery, sliced
2 medium onions, sliced
5 ounces bamboo shoots, sliced
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup beef or chicken broth
chow mein noodles


Brown cubed meat in hot oil in a large skillet or wok 5 minutes at high temperature. Add celery and stir well while cooking over medium heat until celery is tender. Add beansprouts and bamboo shoots and cook for about 3 minutes. Blend together soy sauce, cornstarch, and 1 tablespoon broth. Add with remaining broth to skillet. Cook, stirring gently but constantly, until thickened. Adjust seasoning with soy sauce and/or salt. Serve over noodles.

Recipe serves 4.
